Notes from the past

I've been busy packing. A little here, a little there. A box or two each day.

As is always the case with packing to move house, I find 'treasures' that have been long-forgotten.

Two days ago, I came across a notebook I kept while I was doing my Paediatric attachment with Hospital Kuala Lumpur, back in 2004.

I have seen plenty of patients in the past seven years since I graduated. But this case of Wong Loon Ming is still vivid in my memory.
I wonder how and where he is now.

This next case of Adam is not as vivid. Nevertheless, I recall how I tried to put myself in his mother's shoes.

I remember Chong Pui Ying. We had to be cruel to be kind.

Life is not fair.

Be thankful for what you have.

Taman Jaya

With the Ramadan traffic jam gone (until next year but I won't have to endure it....YAYYYY!!!!) we brought the kids to the park. Twice in two consecutive days.
And both days, they slept before 10pm without a fuss.

They were so happy..... the park was like a breath of fresh air. Not that the air is very fresh.

Makes me miss the wonderful parks in Melbourne - with fresh air.
I've told Joe that we will be able to do this more often when we move to our new place.
He's delighted!

The Alternative Underwear

My princess has been potty trained for about 7 months now. But she has never worn panties.

Even so, when I mention 'underwear', she will tell me, "Hey...it's not underwear. It's panties."

So what does she wear under her dresses?

Gymboree shorts. She has about 5 pairs of these shorts (all hand-me-downs from USA) which are something like bicycle tights but not as tight. The elastic has no gathers so it leaves no marks on the tummy. It just fits really comfortably like a second skin.
Knowing how samseng she can be, these shorts look much more decent than panties while providing larger coverage.

So YeeYee, you know what to look for when you go shopping at the outlet stores. She will need size 5T next year :-)

New dresses to twirl in

The two dresses I ordered for Joy from KidsIslands finally arrived last week. She loves the pink one better because well, it's PINK!
But she kindly obliged me by wearing the red one as well. I had thoughts of her wearing this for Christmas or Chinese New Year but looking at the length, I think it will be too short by then.

Made from good quality Japanese cotton, I like it for being iron-free!

Sept 11, 2010

Today is Ah Ku's birthday.

I know.

It's also the anniversary of 9/11 tragedy.
But it was Ah Ku's birthday way before it was the anniversary of 9/11.

We had an early celebration last Wednesday. It was a surprise for Ah Ku.

The kids made the cake deco for him and helped him blow out the candles.

We had the 'usual' birthday fare. I think it's become our family tradition to have dominos pizza and coleslaw for birthdays.

In addition, we also had rendang chicken, fried chicken and just 2 pieces of Ah Ku's favourite steamed chicken with all the cartilage part for him to chew.
The chicken boys.... they love chicken. Happy Birthday Ah Ku!

More Posing for Pictures

I think I need a better camera and a less cluttered home.

Playing with the 3D glasses that came with The Sun.

Joe trying to look cool.

I like Joy's 'new' hand-me-down jeans that I dug out while packing and clearing the cupboards. Guess jeans. Size 4Y. I fold it up a bit, and I love the way her butt fills out the jeans.
Joy : see my bum bum!
Joe : stay away from my sister's bum!

In fact, on 2 occasions, I've been asked why she's still wearing diapers when she's so big...
I don't wear diapers. I just have a big round bum!

I'm gonna get her smiley photos printed and pasted all over my new home!

Aren't I photogenic...?

See how I keep Mama busy when she's not working... I happily pose for her to snap pictures.

Actually Nana is the one who's more vain - she got me liking her sunglasses that YeeYee bought 3 years ago when she came back here.

Mama would have been very happy if only I had smiled and posed like this for Aunty Grace.

God's Promised 'Land' to us

I've been told to not "simply use the term Promised Land". Let me explain...

"Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young - a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God. -Psalm 84:3"

This is the promise God gave to me as we pondered about the place we came to purchase.

It all started when my brother offered my dad a job here in KL. Following the move to KL, the apartment in Penang is now up for sale. So the most logical course of action was for my parents to buy another apartment here in KL, preferably near to where we currently reside.

But property prices in this area is sky-rocketing and the nearest they can afford is around Old Klang Road. I brought my mum along to view 2 properties there. Though it is so near, it took us an hour to get there and my mum said, "No Way!" She wouldn't know how to get back to my place.

So one Friday, I was just browsing the ads in TheStar newspaper and 2 ads caught my attention. Both were for apartments over 2000sf in Petaling Jaya. I don't quite know why but I was prompted to sms my enquiry. The first ad yielded no response.

But the agent for the other ad called me back almost immediately. So I made an appointment to view the place the very next day, after our Saturday evening Celebration.

Saturday evening came and it was pouring cats and dogs! When we arrived at the place, we bumped into a common friend from church who also knows the agent, and that was how we came to know that the agent is also ex-DUMC. Somehow that put my heart at peace.

The agent brought us to view 2 units, one on a lower floor and the other much higher up. We took an instant liking to the higher floor, but dared not commit. The price for the unit on the higher floor was RM70K more than the lower one. So after viewing, I told the agent to give us a few days to think, and we would get back to her. By then the rain had stopped. But as I got into the car, there was a streak of lightning followed by a loud boom of thunder, as if God was telling us to "BUY!". My mum felt the same prompting but we still wanted to wait for confirmation.

On Sunday evening, the agent called me. I was surprised because I had told her I would get back to her. She asked what I thought and I told her that we liked the unit on the higher floor. She then told us that there was actually some leaking in the back room (which we did not see because the light was out of order). She advised us to arrange a second viewing in broad daylight.

In the mean time, we made some financial calculations. The downpayment for the property would amount to RMXXK and I realized then that this was the exact amount that we had reserved.

On top of that, we would need about RMYYK for legal fees and stamp duty - and we were not sure where this would come from.

Monday morning - we dropped by EPF to check my account 2 balance, before going to view the unit again. God surprised me - there was exactly RMYYK plus about another RM50 in my account 2. His providence amazes and assures me everytime!

So we viewed the unit again and told the vendor that we would like to view again, after the repairs were completed, before we committed to purchase.

Tuesday night - we went to church for PrayerMeeting and Pastor Jin Leong led us to read Psalm 84. Verse 3 almost jumped out at me. This place that we viewed is nearer to church than our current place. And we have been planning for more children.

After these events - there was 'silence' for almost 3 months, during which our patience and faith was put to the test. The vendor took ages to get the leak repaired. The agent also told us that she suspects the vendor was trying to sell it off as it was, without having to repair it. I must confess that at times, I was worried if the place would not be ours. But each time I passed it, I prayed and claimed God's promise to me.

In April, the agent called and told us that the repairs were finally done. We viewed it and offered a price of RM20K below the vendor's asking price. The vendor agreed immediately and there was no need to even bargain! Praise the Lord! Not only did he keep the place for us, but I now have an extra RM20K for renovations!

When God blesses, he blesses abundantly! He opens the floodgates of Heaven and just pours out all His blessings!

The first part of God's promise is taking shape now. We hope to move in by year-end. As for the second part of the promise, nothing has happened yet. But we continue to trust that God will bring it to past. He is a faithful God and I can trust Him.

Coz though I don't know what tomorrow holds, I know who holds tomorrow!

Throwing out Junk

I'm starting to throw out junk and pack stuff in preparation for our move to our Promised Land. (Will explain in another post)

I can't believe the amount of clutter we've accumulated over the years!!!
cupboard full of bags - mostly collected from conferences

celebrex that expired 8 years ago!!!

empty diaper packaging - probably since Joseph's time.
Drypers, Huggies, MamyPoko, Pampers - I've got them all!
I can imagine this packing is going to take many many many many days.....

Long Weekend in Port Dickson & Seremban

It's been a very long weekend which started last Thursday night. We drove back to Seremban to spend a night in AhMah & AhKong's house.
Ah Kong made the kids very happy with ice-cream in cones.

I'm amazed how such a simple thing can bring such huge smiles to their faces.

I let Joseph indulge, since we now find his cough gets better with Herbalife's tea. So he obediently takes the tea after taking cough-inducing foods.

On Friday morning, we drove to Bayu Beach Resort in Port Dickson. It's clean but not quite my cup of tea. On my own, I wouldn't check in here.
We had the very 'talkative' Rev Nicholas Choo (all the way from Singapore) as our camp speaker.
The kids hit the beach in the evening.
This time, Joy was no longer afraid of sand between her toes.

Joseph proceeded to built the sandcastle he had been talking about for weeks.

But a city boy is a city boy and he kept fussing about his sandy hands and wanted to keep washing them.

The next day, they hit the swimming pool and the city boy was certainly much more comfortable.

He's now very daring to jump into the pool unlike some time ago.

We had good fun in the pool. Joe particularly enjoyed playing with Iris che-che. And he had no qualms of splashing his kindy class teacher who was seated by the poolside.

On Sunday, about 40 of us drove to Seremban after checking out, to have Ngau Lam Fun (beef noodles) for lunch.
We went to the Quinn's branch in Kemayan Square. The entire shop was full of just us.
While the rest of the camp went back to KL, we stayed back in Seremban for another night. Daalin drove back to KL early Monday morning to go to work while Nana, the kids and I stayed till evening and then came back my Komuter train. I was quite afraid that the kids would need to pee during the 1hr 20mins-ride but to my relief, Joy pee-ed 3 times between the time she finished her milk, and the time we left home and thereafter stayed dry throughout the journey. Joe also didn't ask to pee. They were both very good in the train. Excited as well.
Today I did a little bit of packing and clearing out junk. Gonna give away stuff that I don't intend to bring to our 'promised land'.

Flowers for my Princess

Nana brought home a huge box of artificial flowers from I-dunno-where.

Pink roses made the Princess so happy!
Joseph promptly grabbed a bunch and pretended to propse to Joy - on one knee!

Now if only I knew what to do with all these flowers...
